Spring is in the air and so is spring cleaning! The Sidorova Inwood Team have a few handy tips on how to get the job done with less of a hassle and which spots to seriously focus on!

Upholstery & Carpets

Winter is finally gone but your fabrics may have absorbed all that winter has left behind; dirt, oil, germs. Which means it is time for a deep clean. Get out the carpet cleaner, shampoo the carpets, place wax paper squares on the legs of furniture so that it does not scratch the floor, open the windows to speed the drying process – which can take over a day. Comforters, blankets, and pillows might not need to be cleaned but it’s a great idea to air them out after a long winter. Hang them outside on a clothesline for an entire day.

Fridge

Although the fridge should be cleaned regularly, part of the spring cleaning routine includes cleaning out that fridge – and especially make sure that the coils are clean! Built-up dust can shut down the fridge by causing it to overheat. Pull out the fridge several feet from where it originally stands and vacuum all around thoroughly. The best fridge cleaner is a combination of soda water and salt!

Floors

Every home wants glistening hardwood floors! Use a combination of wash and wax floor cleaner. This way your floors will look fresher and you have that protective buffer to allow them to last longer and look better.

Walls, Cabinets, Baseboards, & Woodwork

You would be surprised as to how much dust sticks to your walls. Sure, a fresh new coat of paint would be ideal, but if it’s not a possibility, then for your spring cleaning regime, get a sponge and hand dishwashing detergent, and wash the surface of the walls in sections. Dry the walls and woodwork with a clean cloth. Also, make sure to clean the window and door screens with a scrap of carpeting to remove any dirt.

Light Fixtures

Get out that sponge, all-purpose cleaner, and a polish cloth to clean up those light fixtures. You might need a stepladder and an extended reach duster. Clean the blades of the ceiling fan and finally cover it with a coat of furniture polish – but make sure to wipe off any excess.

Windows

Finally! You can now let the sunlight shine in! Clean windows are a must in your spring cleaning regime. Get some soapy water – preferably dishwashing soap – and clean your windows with a piece of cloth. Dry them off with another piece of cloth. Take your drapes off the windows and run them through the air-fluff cycle in the dryer along with a wet towel for about 15-20 minutes. This way, your drapes won’t look so dull!

More Tips

Spring cleaning is a lot of work! So do one room at a time to avoid any unfinished jobs. Try to also dispose of items in one spot, so that you don’t have to make so many trips around the house. Also, try to multi-task! Do your laundry, get your dishwasher running, while at the same time scrubbing down the shower stall. Finally, enjoy the spring!
