5 West Toronto Bike Paths To Check Out This Summer

It’s August, which means it’s time to make the most of the warm weather—before things start to cool down. If you’re a cycling enthusiast, now is a great time to hop on your bike and enjoy some of the city’s prettiest trails. Fortunately, you’ll find them in abundance right here in West Toronto. It’s just a matter of choosing the right ones to explore.

Here are five West Toronto bike trails you should visit before summer ends…

High Park

It’s no secret that we’re big fans of Toronto’s largest green space. At 161 hectares, High Park is an expansive nature lover’s paradise—and the perfect place to check out on a bike. Here you’ll find many paved trails that loop around conveniently, making for uninterrupted rides. Of course, what really makes the park special is its majestic greenery and scenic views (though there are plenty of other things to love about it, from its tennis courts to its on-site zoo). One word of caution: there are a few challenging uphill inclines.

West Humber River Recreational Trail

Are you looking for a trail that’s pretty, relatively quiet, and full of flat terrain? If so, look no further. The West Humber River Recreational Trail, which stretches nearly 19 kilometres in length, is ideal for peaceful bike rides. It’s green, well-maintained, and fairly easy to navigate. Thanks to its location along the river, it also offers many notable sights—from charming bridges to a variety of wildlife. While there’s plenty of space for all, be prepared to share the trail with joggers and dog walkers.

West Toronto Railpath

Construction began on the West Toronto Railpath in 2008, and it’s quickly become a favourite among locals. Running from the Junction towards downtown, this multi-purpose trail is known for being both safe and scenic. It follows an abandoned rail line, so there are no cars to contend with. The public art on this route, which includes colourful murals and unique sculptures, is also worth checking out. As a bonus, you’ll find three bike-share locations along the way—so you can even ride with friends who don’t have their own.

Great Lakes Waterfront Trail

The Great Lakes Waterfront Trail spans an incredible 3600 kilometres, connecting 155 communities. The leg that goes through Etobicoke stretches from Royal York to Park Lawn, and offers some very pleasant views along the way. It winds through, quiet residential streets and traverses vibrant Lake Shore Blvd. Since this is an asphalt trail, you can also expect a relatively smooth ride—just be careful when you’re biking along the busier stretches.

Martin Goodman Trail

The Martin Goodman Trail is well-known among cycling enthusiasts in Toronto. This 22 kilometres along the city’s lakeshore is nothing short of stunning. In West Toronto, it traverses Marilyn Bell Park to Coronation Park. This is where some of the most beautiful sections are found. Eventually, you’ll find the iconic white pedestrian bridge that leads to Humber Bay Park. There are multiple west-end access points to the trail, including in Sir Casimir Gzowski and High parks.
