4 West-End Neighbourhoods Perfect For Young Professionals

Toronto is an incredible place to live if you’re young and ambitious. From the great mix of homes to convenient transit to vibrant restaurants and nightlife, this city has everything you need if you’re youthful and career-oriented.

When it comes to neighbourhoods, you might think the Financial District, Yonge-Eglinton, and similar areas are your primary options. Not so! The west end is chock full of communities that are perfect for workers who prefer a less-corporate vibe.

Here are four West Toronto neighbourhoods that are perfect for young professionals…

1) Roncesvalles

As far as we’re concerned, Roncesvalles is the perfect place for pretty much everyone—including young professionals. Those who prefer a relaxed vibe to the hustle and bustle of downtown won’t mind commuting to work from this eclectic area. Plus, the King streetcar is super accessible!

While the eateries and nightlife are of a different character than those you’ll find downtown, they’re far from boring. Local favourites like Barque Smokehouse (for incredible BBQ and to-die-for brunches) and the Local (for drinks, live music, and pub fare) make the area’s main drag one of the most popular in Toronto.

Toronto is an amazing place to live, no matter what season! Here are some gems you need to know about:

2) The Junction

Not too long ago, the Junction was seen as off the beaten path. No more. This charming west-end gem has fast become one of the hippest neighbourhoods in Toronto. As the number of modern condo buildings and buzz-worthy shops and eateries grows, so too does the number of young home buyers.

Grab drinks at the cozy Hole in the Wall, indulge in some Indian street food at Leela, and hit up one of the area’s funky furniture shops when you’re ready to set up your new digs. If you’re a cyclist, don’t forget to check out the 2.1-kilometre West Toronto Railpath!

3) Trinity Bellwoods

Trinity Bellwoods is another one of those neighbourhoods that young professionals love. There’s no shortage of beautiful houses, condos, and lofts in the area, white the 501 streetcar makes getting around a breeze. Nearby, Ossington station also provides easy subway access.

If you’re looking for things to do when you’re not at work, this neighbourhood is the place to be. Check out the lively retail, dining, nightlife, and galleries along Queen West. Ossington is equally vibrant! Locals are big fans of Bellwoods Brewery and White Squirrel Coffee Shop, along with the abundance of trendy local eateries (think Soos and Union).

Then, of course, there’s the green space. Trinity Bellwoods Park is the perfect place to lounge in the sun, or let your pooch roam (there’s an off-leash area).

4) Parkdale

Building a successful career doesn’t have to mean moving to one of the city’s priciest pockets. There are still relatively-affordable neighbourhoods in Toronto, and many of them have an authentic feel that you won’t find anywhere else. Enter Parkdale. While some think this vibrant area is on the gritty side, it has a whole lot to offer.

Along the section of Queen West that runs through the community, you’ll find vintage shops, trendy boutiques, one-of-a-kind watering holes, and an incredibly diverse smorgasbord of restaurants. The 505 streetcar will get you downtown in a flash—and then back home, whether you live in one of Parkdale’s beautiful houses or character-filled condos!
