When summer hits, Toronto families head outside. Warm weather and sunshine make this the perfect time to switch up your weekend routine, and one of the best ways to do that is with an outdoor festival or event. While there’s no shortage of kid-friendly options across the city, some of the best activities are taking place right here in the west end. So round up the kids and grab your sunscreen, because it’s time for some serious fun!

Here are four events you should check out in Toronto’s west end this summer…

1) Bloor West Street Fest

Bloor West Village is one of the best places to live in the city, and the community also plays host to an incredibly fun summer festival. On June 13th, the Bloor West Street Fest will bring carnival rides, games, live entertainment, food vendors, and a variety of other fantastic activities to the neighbourhood. Your kids will love having their faces painted or seeing the SuperDogs perform their awe-inspiring tricks. You’ll enjoy shopping at the open-air marketplace or taking in one of the musical acts. There’s so much to do at the Bloor West Street Fest that you’ll be glad it’s a full-day event!

2) Big on Bloor Festival

On Saturday, July 20th, a one-of-a-kind arts and cultural event will set up shop on Bloor Street West. Located between Lansdowne Avenue and Dufferin Street, the Big on Bloor Festival showcases fantastic local music, theatre, and visual art. From performance installations to live djs and bands, you’ll find plenty of creativity on display. If you have little ones, check out the art-focused family activities at the Play Fair. To learn more about businesses in the community (and sip on some flavourful craft beer), visit the night market. See what all the buzz is about at this Bloordale event, which has attracted over 100,000 visitors.

3) Free Yoga in High Park

High Park is by far one of the best places for families to spend a summer day in Toronto. From its extensive nature trails to its top-notch recreational facilities, the city’s largest green space never disappoints. Now there’s one more reason to visit on a sunny day. Moms and dads looking to de-stress (and get some gentle exercise in the great outdoors) will want to check out High Park’s free yoga sessions. Until early September, certified instructors will be ready to teach every Sunday morning at 10am. Whether you make it a family outing or find a sitter, you’ll want to catch at least a few of these wonderful sessions at the north end of the park.

4) Bloor West Village Toronto Ukrainian Festival

When summer ends and the school year begins, there are still plenty of opportunities for family fun. The Bloor West Village Toronto Ukrainian Festival is a prime example. From September 14th to 16th, you can immerse yourself in another culture with flavourful food, spirited music, and lively entertainment. North America’s largest Ukrainian festival features cultural pavilions, a parade, and performers from the Ukraine and here in Toronto. The children’s midway will help keep your kids entertained, so be sure to bring the whole family out to this can’t-miss event!
