Cherry Blossom Season in High Park

If you have not yet visited High Park during the Cherry Blossom Season, it is definitely something you and your family must schedule during the season.

The scenery of the Cherry Blossom Trees all over High Park is sensational, so be prepared to have your breath taken away.

High Park is home to about 2,050 Cherry Blossom Trees, or Sakura, donated from the Japanese Ambassador to Canada back in 1959 and from individual families. These trees bloom in spring, and the beautiful blossoms are enjoyed by thousands of people every year.

When can you expect to have a nice stroll through the gorgeous park? Now! Late April or early May is the best time to go, as the trees are beautifully bloomed.

You won’t want to miss this as Cherry Blossoms last for about a week to a week and a half if the weather is nice, but if it rains while they are in bloom then the flower petals fall quicker and the blooming may be over in just a few short days. Some years – not too often – if the weather is unusually cold in April then the trees may not bloom at all since Toronto’s climate is about as cold as the trees can tolerate.

Here are some tips for those of you who are interested in viewing High Park’s amazing attraction!

  1. High Park Cherry’s Blossom Season is quite the popular event, so midweek visits are sure to be less chaotic
  2. It’s probably a good idea to avoid driving/parking in High Park unless you plan to arrive early in the morning. Quite frankly, parking during this season is not desirable; many cars, long traffic jams, honking, frustrated drivers… You get the picture.
  3. With the above point, transit is a great option! High Park is steps from High Park Station which is located on the Bloor/Danforth line
  4. We mean it when we say it can get crowded, so be prepared when you do get there. Bring a lunch, snacks or beverages with you.
  5. Although Cherry Blossoms and leaves are actually edible, do try to avoid eating them!

While Cherry Blossom Trees are incredibly well known for their beauty, they’re also known for short blooming periods – so don’t miss this great family attraction in High Park!
