Is It Your Dream Home? Here’s How To Tell.

Are you hunting for the perfect home? Many buyers believe they’ll know their ideal property as soon as they see it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work that way. Many home hunters feel torn when they find a living space that could meet their needs. If you find yourself wondering whether that suburban bungalow or Victorian townhouse is really the home of your dreams, you’re not alone. The good news is, there are a few signs you can look out for.

Here are a few ways to tell if that the home you’re thinking of buying is perfect for you…

You feel at home

Have you ever walked into a home and feel all of the tension leave your body? It could be a loved one’s house, your best friend’s condo, or the place where you’re living now. What matters is that you’re so comfortable when you’re there, you never want to leave. If you get that feeling when you’re touring a living space, it could be the one you’ve been looking for. Of course, you’ll want to make sure that any home you’re considering checks off your most important boxes. Just don’t discount your intuition!

You’re already mentally decorating

Whether you love interior design or not, you’ll want the place you call home to be as stylish and comfortable as possible. That’s why it may be a great sign if you start decorating a living space in their mind. Are you thinking about how you’ll arrange the living room furniture, or imagining the shade of paint you want to put on the bathroom walls? Either way, your ability to envision a future life in a particular home just might mean it’s the right place to put down roots.

You’re telling friends and family

When we’re excited about a major life change, most of us talk about it with the people we’re closest to. Some things are just too exciting not to share! If that includes the home you’ve just viewed, it could mean you’ve found your dream living space. Of course, there are many factors to consider—like potential commute times and whether it matters if you have green space nearby. But there’s also something to be said for a property you can’t wait to introduce your loved ones to.

It aligns with your future plans

How much do you expect your life to change in the next couple of years? Are there going to be any new additions to the family? Most likely, you have a home-search criteria that aligns with your future plans. And sometimes, it makes sense to look at properties that don’t fit it perfectly. Other times, you view a home that has everything your looking for—and steals your heart. The square footage, open-concept kitchen, and number of bedrooms your family is going to need? What could be better than that?

Its flaws are okay with you

Perhaps the home you’re thinking of buying has a few imperfections. Maybe even more than a few. You’re not in love with the basement flooring. The bedroom doors squeak, and the dishwasher has definitely seen better days. If you still can’t get the home out of your mind, it might just be your perfect place. Don’t forget that you can always negotiate with the seller to try to get them to take care of the repairs for you—or lower the purchase price.
