Mother’s Day: What it means to be a mother, son team

Had you asked me 10 years ago, I would have laughed at the thought of working alongside my Mom. Yes, I’ve always had a passion for real estate, and sure, who better to get into the business with than Tanya but it wouldn’t have clicked.

Fast forward to today. A month has passed since we officially became the Sidorova Inwood Team and a lot has happened.

It’s been a strong spring for the Toronto real estate market. Sale prices have increased a whopping 16.2 per cent year over year as of April.

For us, in the last month we’ve had seven new listings, worked with two buyers and have another five listings ready to hit the market in the next few weeks.

Needless to say, there’s been a lot of mother, son time spent together getting these deals done!

There aren’t many people who can say they go to work every day with their Moms – I’m one of them… for better or worse. And with Mother’s Day this Sunday (if you forgot, you’re welcome) I wanted to share some perks of a mother, son partnership.

The best professional advice my mom ever gave me: Look beyond the business side of real estate. It’s easy to get caught up in selling a house or helping a buyer find their dream home. This is an emotional purchase – a home is where people lay down their roots, raise their families and settle into retirement so it’s way more than just a price on paper.

The best part about working with Mom: She’s been in the business for such a long time and has literally seen and heard everything you could imagine. She’s also seen the neighbourhood grown and change which gives her unique perspective. The best thing for me is to be able to bounce ideas off of her, pick her brain and since she’s still my Mom, tell me when I’m completely wrong about something!

Why mothers make good realtors: They have a caring, nurturing quality about them, something that unless you’re a Mom you don’t have. My Mom has the ability to make people feel comfortable right from the get-go which is another reason why working with her is so easy.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mom’s out there!
